2. om3 fiber: The maximum transmission distance of om3 fiber in 1G, 10G and 40G / 100G is 1km, 300m and 100m respectively.
Production costs are different
1. om4 optical fiber: the om4 optical fiber has higher production costs due to its higher transmission bandwidth requirements.
2. om3 optical fiber: om3 optical fiber is due to low transmission bandwidth requirements and large production demand, which makes the production cost lower.
Different uses
1. om4 optical fiber: om4 optical fiber application right in high-speed network, suitable for data center, financial center and enterprise park.
2. om3 fiber: om3 fiber is used in short-range network, local area network (LAN) and private network.
The real difference between the OM 3 and OM 4 multimode fibers is that the OM 4 has a high mode bandwidth of —— 4700 MHz km, while the OM 3 fiber is 2000 MHz km. Both types of fibers are laser-optimized 50 / 125 multimode fibers, which means both have 50 µ m core diameter and 125 µ m coating diameter, under special coating to prevent light leakage. The two fibers use the same connector, the same terminal, and the same transceiver —— vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) that emit infrared light at a wavelength of 850 nm.
