A rack optical splitter is a large optic splitter, usually mounted on a standard rack, with multiple downlink and uplink ports. It is mainly used for dividing one input optical signal into a plurality of output optical signals so that multiple users or devices can receive signals simultaneously.

Rack optical splitters are usually manufactured using PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) or FBT (Fused Biconical Taper) technology. PLC technology is based on optical integration technology, using the semiconductor process to make optical waveguide branch device, the split function is completed on the chip. FBT technology bundles more than two optical fibers together, and then melts and stretches on the drawing machine. During the stretching process, each optical fiber coupling spectral ratio is monitored. After the spectral ratio reaches the requirements, the melting stretching retains one optical fiber at one end as the input end and the other end as the multi-channel output.
